OPTIMA YellowTop™ batteries are
designed Primarily as DEEP-CYCLE batteries. They are truly
DUAL use! This makes them ideal for engine starting too!
Although the Red Top ones can give higher starting currents as they were
primarily designed for this job. Anything that uses batteries
in a cyclic manor, (like my electric
wheelchair!) benefits from the use of these batteries.
They will give longer life, better performance, lower internal
resistance than conventional deep cycle batteries and Gel batteries.
They offer faster charging, greater number of cycles, better performance
than conventional batteries when partly discharged, greater temperature
stability.
The very reason for this site, and the fact
that I now sell these batteries, is because I used to have all
kinds of problems with conventional Deep-Cycle batteries in my modified
Power Chair!
The stock batteries the manufacturers chose to use were extremely expensive, big and heavy
"conventional style" Deep Cycle, sealed, GEL batteries 2 x 12v 56Ah.

They were thought to be the best solution
available! They gave me 270 cycles of charge and discharge per set of
batteries before they were buggered... That's just 9 months! That means
that I had 5 sets of them in 3 years because I used them every day...
The price of the YellowTop Optima batteries is not much higher, but they
can be Deep Cycled around 2 to 3 times more! That means in real terms
1/3 to 1/2 the cost! And less downtime. Also If you charge or discharge
a normal deep cycle GEL type battery at high rates, then they form
bubbles in the GEL between the plates, meaning less AMPS and higher internal resistance. This state
of affairs never recovers because GEL is thick! Optima's do NOT suffer this problem.
In addition the OPTIMA's can be charged faster, stored longer, discharge
naturally at a lower rate, and most importantly they can deliver MUCH
more current than a conventional Deep Cycle battery can. So much so,
that unlike other conventional Deep Cycle batteries they can also be
used for starting engines with hundreds of amps!

™
Optima YellowTop
is made to install and forget. No matter the conditions, be it dampness,
heat, dirt or exposure to extremes in vibration or discharge, it is
guaranteed to deliver uninterrupted power throughout the entire
discharge cycle. The ability to hold a high charge throughout the
discharge cycle makes it possible to utilize more of the stored power
in the OPTIMA, compared to ordinary batteries. All of these benefits are
due to OPTIMA's SpiralCell Technology®, which combines the advantages of
a starting battery (High current capability) with those of a deep cycle
battery (no damage due to repeated deep discharge cycles). It handles

engineered in DEEP-CYCLE capability. The The OPTIMA battery design uses
the same elements that Optima used to make the Red Top Starting battery.
Then Optima Battery engineers then increased the battery plate density.

Will it fit my car/van/truck?
Optima's were never
designed to be "direct" replacements for a standard production vehicles
battery. Whichever one you choose, be sure that it can be fitted! The
responsibility for this is yours, and yours alone! - If you cannot
fit it, it cannot be returned, because there can be no guarantee
that it has not been used. Therefore it becomes un-saleable! You
wouldn't like to receive a battery that has been "used" would you!
They come only in the
sizes and specifications above. This is because they have such low
internal resistance even the small size 3.7L batteries can produce huge
starting currents and they will start any normal car!
They were intended to be
used in "special" vehicles with specific "difficult" battery needs. They
will undoubtedly be a major improvement over your "normal"
standard automotive battery, (as well as some of the Optima
"pretenders!) but may need some minor adjustments or fabrication to the
hold down clamps or terminals/cables etc to fit your vehicle. If you are
unlucky, both! If you are lucky it will just fit right in!
It may happen that the
terminals are the "wrong" way around for your car. This is pretty easy
to solve simply by turning the battery around. Or it can be fitted on
its side! If the terminals are not the correct type then
"converters" that go from Round DIN style, to the square bolt on type
are available from places such as Halfords in the high street.
