OPTIMA RedTop™ batteries are designed for short term high current applications such as starting engines, like those ones shown above or your car in the middle of winter! They can be left for months, in the depths of winter and will start even the most high compression race engine, or agricultural diesel engine first time!

They are excellent at delivering very high starting currents in the most extreme of conditions. They suffer less damage from deep discharge, long term storage, and vibration than any conventional battery. They are not specifically designed as “deep-cycle” batteries, for constant deep discharge/recharge cycles you will need to look at our YellowTop Optima batteries. But this Red Top battery with its SpiralCell Lead Plate Technology, will suffer much less from the occasional deep discharge (such as leaving your lights on) than a “standard” flat plate style battery would do.

Because of the fact that SpiralCell technology can store more energy for a given size of battery, these types of battery are ideal for use in motor sport because a much larger “conventional” battery would need to be used in place of an OPTIMA to give the same starting current capability. And they don’t leak, corrode, spill, have very low self discharge rates, and can be mounted any way up!

Optima RedTop 6V2,1L starter battery with SAE top terminals. Designed for use in heavy equipment installations and old vintage cars requiring a high power 6 Volt batter.
Two 6 Volt batteries are often used for weight distribution purposes in racing and high performance cars since OPTIMA can be installed on its side permanently.

Will it fit my car/van/truck?

Optima’s were never designed to be “direct” replacements for a standard production vehicles battery. Whichever one you choose, be sure that it can be fitted! The responsibility for this is yours, and yours alone!  – If you cannot fit it, it cannot be returned, because there can be no guarantee that it has not been used. Therefore it becomes un-saleable!  You wouldn’t like to receive a battery that has been “used” would you!

They come only in the sizes and specifications above. This is because they have such low internal resistance even the small size 3.7L batteries can produce huge starting currents and they will start any normal car!

They were intended to be used in “special” vehicles with specific “difficult” battery needs. They will undoubtedly be a major improvement over your “normal” standard automotive battery, (as well as some of the Optima “pretenders!) but may need some minor adjustments or fabrication to the hold down clamps or terminals/cables etc to fit your vehicle. If you are unlucky, both! If you are lucky it will just fit right in! 

It may happen that the terminals are the “wrong” way around for your car. This is pretty easy to solve simply by turning the battery around. Or it can be fitted on its side!  If the terminals are not the correct type then “converters” that go from Round DIN style, to the square bolt on type are available from places such as Halfords in the high street.
